Scotland’s annual music pilgrimage has come a long way since its humble beginnings at Strathclyde Country Park back in 1994. The 17,000 revellers who soaked up the very first T in the Park - including just 2,000 campers - were treated to sets by the likes of Rage Against the Machine, Bjork, Primal Scream and Paul Oakenfold.

Nowadays, T draws a markedly larger crowd, with more than 250,000 music revellers expected to descend on this year's event. But as it's grown, the debate rages on over the festival's line-up - does T still have it or is it the poor relation to some of the other larger festivals in the UK and Europe?

Whether you love it or hate it, the music plays on. With some incredible acts set to play across the weekend, here's a selection of T's finest that we think you'd be mad to miss.

1. Prides

Prides will go down in T history as the first band to grace the stage at the festival's newly minted Strathallan Castle site. The trio already have previous form, disarming large audiences with their catchy, keyboard driven pop when they played the Commonwealth Games closing ceremony in Glasgow last year.

2. Hozier

The Irish singer/songwriter brings his rich vocals to the Main Stage on Friday.

3. Mark Ronson

Fresh from his triumphant Glasto appearance, Ronson will headline the King Tut's Wah Wah Tent with a DJ set packed full of gems from his back catalogue.

4. Sam Smith

He’s been laying low after throat surgery but T bosses have assured fans that Sam Smith will be ready for his Friday night slot on the Main Stage.

5. Alt-J

The 2012 British Mercury Music winners are tipped as future festival headliners; catch them before that inevitability on the BBC Three/Radio 1 Stage on Saturday.

6. Twin Atlantic

After headlining a sold-out Hydro gig in May, Scottish sons Twin Atlantic will be taking the Saturday night headline slot on the BBC Three/Radio 1 stage.

7. St Vincent

Chaos tamer St Vincent will deliver one of the must-watch sets of the weekend when she storms King Tut's Wah Wah Tent for some early evening musical delights on Saturday.

8. Jungle

Funk, dance and soul are high on this London-based group's agenda as they play songs from their eponymous debut album in the King Tut's Tent on Saturday.

9. Vukovi

Hailing from Troon and Kilwinning, the rock quartet fronted by Janine Shilstone are sure to gain some new fans when they play the BBC Introducing stage on Saturday night.

10. Paloma Faith

She debuted at the festival back in 2010 and since then has been gaining fans globally. Her Sunday afternoon Main Stage spot is sure to draw a massive crowd.

11. The Prodigy

They first headlined the festival back in 1998 so it's fitting that The Prodigy are back once again to show the rest how it's done. Their headline set on the BBC Three/Radio 1 Stage will be unmissable.

12. Catfish and the Bottlemen

With a sold out UK tour already under their belt and another run of shows in October selling out in minutes, Catfish and the Bottlemen are very much the band of the moment. They play the BBC Three/Radio 1 Stage on Sunday.

13. Everything Everything

The third album from the northern quartet just landed in the top ten - and with good reason. Catch them in the King Tut's Wah Wah Tent on Sunday or regret it.

14. Benjamin Booker

Hotly tipped as one to watch, the New Orleans-based singer brings his brand of fiery blues-rock to the T Break Stage on Sunday afternoon.

15. Noel Gallagher’s High Flying Birds

As he plays songs from his number one album, 'Chasing Yesterday', we’re sure Noel will also have some choice words for the T crowd. He closes the festival on Sunday night from the Main Stage.

T in the Park, July 10-12, Strathallan Castle, Perthshire.
