The Gironella tower is the oldest fortification in Girona, and the tallest point on what's left of the city's Roman wall. It's known to have been around since 994, even though some remains that have been found indicate it could have been part of the first Iberian settlement. Nowadays, the Torre Gironella features a mix of eras: Roman bases, medieval canvases, and later reinforcements and extensions. According to legend it was founded by Gerió, a giant from Greek mythology.
