At the northern end of the Barri Vell you'll discover El Forn, the gastronomic space of the Casal Independentista that is well worth checking out. Since 2012 they've created a welcoming place with stone walls where you can enjoy a beer, some Empordà or Penedès wines, and classic tapas and dishes from around the Països Catalanes (an area of Catalan-speaking communities that includes Catalonia, Valencia and the Balearic Islands). With high-quality local, seasonal ingredients, the traditional and modern go hand-in-hand with such plates as mackerel marinated in salt with jus and artichokes, or Trinxat de la Cerdanya (a fried cabbage and potato dish from the Pyrennes) with bacon and poached egg. From time to time, the space hosts painting and photography exhibitions, along with other activities related to the city's local associations.
