The hotel now known as Waldorf Astoria Edinburgh – the Caledonian dates to the Edwardian era and the Pompadour is its flagship restaurant. This has gorgeous French Rococo décor and a typical à la carte main would be roast monkfish, lobster ravioli, caramelised cep, cauliflower and shellfish bisque. The gourmand and à la carte menus ain’t cheap but there is a seasonal menu, Tuesday to Thursday, £29.
