You will either love the design conceit here or hate it. Opened as recently as 2013, the Potting Shed describes itself as a café-bar and kitchen but is decked out like a cavernous garden shed with all the appropriate fixtures and fittings. It also sits opposite the main campus of the University of Edinburgh so attracts a lot of students. There is decent pub grub like burgers, shepherd's pie, fish and chips, macaroni cheese and more but the venue does offer a highly respectable selection of cask and craft beers too. There can be examples from Scottish breweries like Inveralmond, Pilot Beer, Stewart's or Williams Brothers, also from English or Welsh breweries like Camden Town, Fourpure, Tiny Rebel and Wild Beer. Certainly attracting a different kind of crowd from the doughty old cask ale pubs in the city, time will tell whether the beer range is the unique selling point in this venue or the allotment-style décor.
