Bennets is a good bar with genuine Victorian-era roots, and an excellent whisky list, next door to the King’s Theatre. Through the back – or from the Valleyfield Street entrance round the corner – you find the Skean Dhu, its modest dining room. The establishment offers daily brunch, a bar menu (stovies, mac cheese, steak sandwich) but more elaborate dishes for dinner (pan-fried trout, lamb casserole). Two courses pre-theatre, £12.95.
