In the heart of tourist country, next to the Royal Mile, Daft Jamie’s wears its Caledonian heart on its sleeve but avoids cliché and takes pride in the excellence of the country’s larder. That means starters like Sichuan peppered Scottish beef with wasabi, or mains like lobster with saffron risotto. Lamb is from Dornoch, steak from the Borders, salmon from Shetland and mussels from the west coast. It’s nae half bad, as they say here.
