Live music typically takes a back seat at the Edinburgh festivals as the performing arts dominate. But that’s not to say there aren’t great concerts of a whole variety of types to be enjoyed across the month, in venues large and small. Indeed, with the Edinburgh International Festival’s new director Fergus Linehan vowing to bring pop into their programme in a big way – and putting his money where his mouth is in 2015 – positive changes are afoot for people who regard pop and rock music as just as high art forms as classical, opera, dance and theatre.
