A city centre bar with more than a dash of hipsterism about it, Hoot the Redeemer occupies a basement space just off Princes Street, comfortably aloof from the more traditional bars and pubs along Rose Street yet a decent trek from the city's main clubbing district on the Cowgate. There's a carnival side show theme to the bar - once you push past the fortune teller automaton on the door, you'll be greeted by vintage pinball tables and mocked up tarot cards on the wall. The menus backs up the funfair vibe with boozy ice creams and slushies available alongside a wide array of cocktails (or some suitably obscure craft beers, if that's your racket).
