A few surrealist paintings and one grey-speckled wall are the only pops of colour you’ll find in the subtle, white-washed space that Hey Donna has called home for the last year. Brought to you by Joe Macken of neighbourhood favorite Jo’Burger and famed pop-up Crackbird, Hey Donna offers something a little more grown up than his previous ventures. The menu is designed for sharing, and list both helpful definitions and local suppliers. Designated staff picks like house-made labneh, Berber-spiced lamp chops, and slow-roasted carrots with tahini are rightfully recommended to every newcomer. Hey Donna also does weekend brunch with standouts like short rib steak sandwich, shakshuka, and an avocado, radish, and mackerel salad. All guests are encouraged to bring leftovers home to reduce restaurant waste. The staff will even provide tips about what to do with them.
Time Out tip: Like Jo Burger, Hey Donna has a range of flavoured lemonades (orange/lemon, lime/ginger, pomegranate/lime) that pair perfectly with vodka, rum, tequila, or prosecco.
