The Love for Three Oranges from Russian composer Sergei Prokofiev comes again to Zagreb, after its debut in February 2017. Commissioned in 1921 by the Chicago Opera Association it has not been performed by the Zagreb Opera for 46 years. The neo-baroque theatre is a national landmark. Opened by Habsburg Emperor Franz Josef in 1895, it played a vital role in the establishment of a Croatian national identity. What you find today is a sumptuous interior – a perfect backdrop to Prokofiev’s satirical opera.
