Gavella City Drama Theater

This downtown theatre has a colourful history, having been set up by rebellious young actors and directors who broke away from the confines of the Croatian National Theatre in 1953. They were led by Dr Branko Gavella, and the Zagreb Drama Theatre they founded was later named after the great theatre director and critic. Today its repertoire is equally at ease with Shakespeare as it is with contemporary drama.
