Launched by the local olive oil retailers and delicatessen specialists Uje, this is much more than the title suggests; a quality wine and food bar that offers the best of Mediterranean fare in elegant surroundings. Located on the corner of intersecting alleyways in an (until now) little traversed corner of the Palace precinct, Uje is filled with the kind of solid wooden furniture that makes it feel like a welcoming farmhouse kitchen. Shelves packed with jars of wholesome-looking preserves serving to bolster the homely feel. The menu changes according to what’s in season and includes many of the more old-fashioned things in the traditional Dalmatian repertoire – fish soups, dishes with beans and pulses, and much more besides. You can also dunk your bread in various olive oils – the nearby islands are famous for producing highly individual blends. Uje’s wine list is brief but well-chosen; the desserts are divine.
