A tiny bakery-cum-shop in a not-exactly-high-street location, Gabi does a roaring trade with in-the-know locals appreciative of a well-made cake with a touch of artistic originality. Gabi is an outstanding exponent of the spongey-side of life, with delicate muffins (fruits, berries, ginger; not just chocolate), soft and springy carrot cakes, and a delightfully sticky rogač (carob) torte shouting “eat me!” from the display cabinet. There are always a couple of gluten-free options. Unfortunately there’s nowhere to sit and eat – but it’s still a good place to pick up the dessert for your picnic. Little publicized and a real find, it’s not as off-the-beaten-track as all that – for those staying in Lapad or Babin kuk it’s a mere 5-minute detour from the #6 bus route into town, so there’s no reason why you shouldn’t pop in.
