Croatia has a long and prestigious history of animation, with the 1961 short Surogat being the first non-American film to win the Oscar for best animated picture. This storied tradition continues with Zagreb's annual Animafest. Set up in 1972, the festival is the second-oldest for hand- and computer-drawn films in the world and remains one of the biggest events for animators.
Running June 5-10, this year's offerings are being screened across a dozen halls and theatres in the city centre, along with workshops, lectures and panels. More than 300 films from across the world will be shown.
Tickets are €4 per screening and €40 for a pass which allows entry to all events.
For more information, the full schedule and to purchase tickets, see the Animafest website.
