Croatia’s football stars made the world sit up and take notice in 2018 while the country has always been tailor-made for sailors, hikers and climbers. Now the Croatian National Tourist Board is highlighting sport as the key element in its strategy to get the sector back to pre-pandemic levels.

At an online conference for leading figures in the industry, the Croatian National Tourist Board agreed with the country’s sports federations to promote tourism through marketing and PR activity.

According to CNTB director Kristjan Staničić: “Croatian athletes are one of the best promoters of our country in the world, and numerous sporting events and competitions bring many tourists to our country, creating an excellent opportunity to further highlight Croatia in the international arena. Since our country is recognised around the world as a quality tourist destination, additional promotion through sport builds increased visibility of our country in a global context”.

Along with laying out the guidelines for a nationwide strategy until 2025, the CNTB announced a small grants programme for 1.6 million kuna to develop the tourist sector. Further details will be announced on the CNTB website this month.
