According to recent figures, tourism is currently booming in Croatia, with a bumper summer expected for 2024. As outlined by the Croatian Bureau of Statistics, foreign tourist arrivals this May totalled 1.66 million, a 21% year-on-year increase compared with the same month in 2023.
Alongside, May saw 6.3 million overnight stays, a rise of 25% more than last year. Contributing to this growth has been Croatia’s entry into the border-free Schengen zone, the country’s adoption of the euro and repeat custom, with many visitors coming back after an enjoyable experience the year before.
Another factor has been the increase in air passengers. While Dubrovnik is welcoming direct flights from New York this year until late September, this June Zagreb recorded the highest number of travellers for one month, more than 400,000, boosted by a 10% increase in routes to and from the Croatian capital. With more flights scheduled for high season, this monthly figure is expected to climb nearer to 450,000.
