The Zagreb Advent Run annual charity race has just celebrated its eighth edition, attracting a record-breaking 4,300 runners from more than 30 countries. Participants of all ages were dressed in festive costumes to tackle a course of either 5km or 10km, all in the spirit of contributing to a good cause.
This year's race was dedicated to supporting the UniSport Heart Foundation, established by the Croatian Academic Sports Association. The organisation focuses on advancing student athletes and encouraging sports participation in Croatia by providing financial aid, prompting investment in sport technology, and hosting educational workshops and seminars.
The starting point for the runners was in front of the Hotel Hilton Garden Inn. They jogged past the Museum of Contemporary Art and up towards Ribnjak park (with participants of the 10km race extending all the way up to Jandrićeva tram stop, parallel with Mirogoj cemetery, before turning back). At this point, onlookers on the main square were treated to a festive spectacle as the sea of Santa hats, reindeer ears, and even a few Christmas presents, created a wave of good vibes through the decorated streets.
The official total for the money raised is yet to be published, but with a record number of people involved for 2023, it is safe to call it a huge success.
