Funding has been secured for Croatian Motorways to complete the highway all the way to Dubrovnik, with the year 2030 pencilled in as the finish line.

At present, motorists can drive as far as Metković, 90 minutes’ drive south of Split. Croatia’s showcase resort of Dubrovnik is currently the same time driving time again.

The opening of the Zagreb-Split highway in 2005 was a driving force behind Croatia’s economic boom. The cost of building the upcoming motorway extension is said to be around €1.3 billion, and loans have been agreed with several Croatian banks. The figure includes €35 million for essential maintenance of the existing network.
