Known for his work with the Sex Pistols and David Bowie, legendary UK filmmaker Julien Temple will be making a personal appearance at this week’s Cinehill festival to receive its honorary Maverick Award.
Taking place at Petehovac in Gorski kotar between July 24-28, Cinehill is the successor to the Motovun Film Festival, where Temple also appeared in 2011 (pictured above).
Now 70, the London-born documentarist most recently made a biopic about Shane McGowan, Crock of Gold, awarded a Special Jury Prize at Sundance, which is also showing at Cinehill.
“It is with great pleasure that we support the arrival of Julien Temple at Cinehill and we are glad that the festival has decided to introduce the audience in Croatia to his work,” said Simon Thomas, the UK Ambassador to Croatia, who has supported this initiative.
“Julien is one of the icons of our music and film scene, having collaborated with fantastic artists such as David Bowie, Grace Jones, the Sex Pistols, The Kinks, and Madness, and he also made a film about the legendary British Glastonbury festival. Temple’s films on Petehovac are a wonderful amalgam of British and Croatian filmmaking and culture in general. I am glad that the Cinehill audience, for whom British films, books and music are already part of their life and informal education, will have the opportunity to get to know Julien Temple and his work.”
This year, Cinehill will be screening acclaimed films such as Janet Planet and The Boy and the Heron, as well as lesser-known works about social disintegration in Greenland, Soviet dissident poets and a courtroom drama with a dog as the main defendant.
