A magnificent griffon vulture has just been released into the wild after being rehabilitated at the Sokolarski Centar in Dubrava near Šibenik. It had been found malnourished and disoriented on Hvar two months ago, before being taken to the rescue centre. Over the last two decades, specialist treatment has allowed two-thirds of the birds, the largest in Croatia, brought in to recover from their injuries.
As well as a place of education, welcoming nearly a quarter of a million schoolchildren since opening, the centre is a popular tourist attraction in summer, giving visitors the chance to observe first-hand the tricks and training needed to master the noble art of falconry.
