Zagreb’s top chefs gathered at the Esplanade Hotel for the launch of the first Gault&Millau Guide to the Croatian capital. The cosmopolitan culinary connoisseurs list Zagreb’s best 100 restaurants in their debut edition, which also covers the best dining destinations in Zagreb County.
The main challengers to Michelin in expert restaurant assessment, Gault&Millau concentrate purely on food, with details of service, price and atmosphere listed elsewhere. Their yellow guides have become a byword for quality. The annual Croatia edition is due out in April.
Restaurants are rated up a maximum of 20 points. For Zagreb, top chef Tvrtko Šakota of NAV garnered an impressive total of 17.5/20.

“Special congratulations to the 11 award-winning Zagreb chefs,” said Martina Bienenfeld, CEO of Zagreb Tourist Board, at the launch. “I believe that the G&M ratings and awards will be an incentive for them to continue striving for excellence in creating an overall gastronomic experience. This type of experience is one of the most important motives for our guests to visit Zagreb and its surroundings, and the reason for choosing an individual restaurant.”
Written in English and Croatian, also listing wine bars and pastry shops, the Gault&Millau 2022 Guide to Zagreb & Surroundings is available at all Tisak outlets.
