From this week, free guided tours of Vrsar in English and Italian are being offered to visitors, allowing them to discover this pretty hilltop town on the west coast of Istria. Once a fishing village and former haunt of Casanova, Vrsar features a magnificent bell tower 40 metres high, a symbol of this relaxed community just south of the bustling resort of Poreč.

As you stroll around the landmarks, a qualified guide will talk you through the history and heritage of this one-time Venetian outpost, on Thursdays at 7pm from June 20 to August 22. Those interested should gather outside the Vrsar Tourist Board at Obala M Tita 23. Reservations aren’t required.
