Award-winning filmmaker Ashley Colburn has just created a series of unique videos, each showing a different aspect of how to get the best out of your visit to Croatia.
The adventurous TV producer and host, who won an Emmy for her first travel show WOW Croatia! in 2010, now takes to two wheels for the first episode in her new series, Smart Travel.
Setting out to explore the rolling Žumberak-Samobor hills nature park by bike, Ashley explains that Croatia has more than 4,000km of cycle trails, so there’s something for everyone. She then heads off along the Plešivica Wine Road, where some 40 winemakers produce Portugizac, Zelenac and Šipelj varieties, as a well as global favourites, all within easy reach of Zagreb.
Finally, Ashley cycles into Istria, going from village to village, occasionally gliding along the seafront. Pointing out that Croatia offers more than 1,200 islands, Ashley then hops on a ferry to Brijun. “With your bike in tow,” she says, “there’s no better way to feel the salty air of the Adriatic”.
