The Croatian Mint has just produced the world’s smallest commemorative coin, as acknowledged by the Guinness Book of Records. The so-called Hum gold coin has been named after the smallest town in the world, a hilltop community of 52 residents deep in rural Istria. Only 1.99mm in diameter and weighing 0.05 grammes, it features images of Hum on one side and boškarin, the cattle native to Istria, on the other.
Of further note, these are the last coins to be denominated in kuna, the Croatian currency that was phased out in early 2023 when the country adopted the euro. There has recently been revived local interest in currency since the recent opening of the Moneterra Money Museum in Zagreb.
