Archaeologists digging in the historic city of Stari Grad on Hvar, founded by the Ancient Greeks, have unearthed the remains of several sections of floor mosaic from the Roman era. Working in a UNESCO-Protected area before the renovation of Stari Grad’s water supply and sewerage systems, the team hit upon a much wider expanse of tiling than had been discovered a century ago, relating to several rooms dating back two millennia.
At a later date, the local Stari Grad Museum and the Conservation Department of the Ministry of Culture in Split will decide how, where and when these rare finds will be put on public display.
