Zagreb's Burger Festival in late September saw Strossmayer Square packed with burgers and burger-eaters of all kinds. The 11-day event was the first ever festival dedicated to the meaty treat, and it was a huge success: more than 40,000 burgers were eaten in all.
Live music, panel discussions, and free-flowing drinks had diners endlessly entertained, but the main attractions were the burger stalls, with eight different vendors vying for business - and for votes.
Festival goers were asked to score the burgers out of 5, and the winner - with an impressive average score of 4.8 - was Submarine.
The Submariners always use organic beef and local cheese, and the menu features a number of pleasingly unlikely combinations. You'll find a couple of Submarine branches in the centre - find details, and read our review, here.
