Thanks to the years that architect Frank Lloyd Wright spent working in Chicago (and living in nearby Oak Park), the Midwest is dotted with homes that he designed—and a few of them are available to rent. Plan a weekend getaway from Chicago and head to a Wright-designed property in Michigan, Indiana or Wisconsin, where you can spend a night in a Usonian home or one of the architect's early stabs at mass-produced Prairie School abodes. Renting one of these properties means that you'll be able to get a closer look at custom furniture, decorative stained glass and other design elements you may have seen in Frank Lloyd Wright buildings in Chicago. While it's a bit more expensive than your average Airbnb rental, a weekend spent in one of these Frank Lloyd Wright homes for rent is worth splurging for.

Bernard Schwartz House (Still Bend) in Two Rivers, MI

Originally designed for an article in a 1938 issue of LIFE magazine that showcased conceptual dream homes for American families, this home impressed Wisconsin businessman Bernard Schwartz so much that he asked Wright to build it for him. Boasting interiors that feature exposed brick and wood paneling, the four-bedroom home (also known as Still Bend) sits near the East Twin River in Two Rivers, Wisconsin. Guests can enjoy reading vintage books beside twin fireplaces in the expansive living room or cooking in the bright kitchen. Be aware: There's no air conditioning here, though the weather is typically cool.

Eppstein House in Galesburg, MI

Part of a small community of Wright-designed homes built throughout the ’50s in Galesburg, Michigan, collectively known as The Acres, the Eppstein House was painstakingly restored in 2017 and is now available to rent. The three-bedroom home typically accommodates groups of up to four people, who can enjoy gazing at the natural scenery through the property's large windows, listening to a vintage record collection or getting cozy on Mid Century furniture by a wood stove. And if it's warm enough to head outdoors, there are three terraces and a firepit in the lawn.

Curtis Meyer House in Galesburg, MI

Exhibiting a striking hemicycle design, the Curtis Meyer House is another recently renovated property within The Acre community in Galesburg, Michigan. Filled with curved walls, Honduras mahogany accents and gigantic windows, the three-bedroom home is outfitted with custom furniture (much of it designed by Wright himself) that is situated to provide great views of the wooded surroundings.

Dr. Richard Davis House (Woodside) in Marion, IN

Inspired by an unused design that Wright had intended for a resort in Lake Tahoe, Woodside feels a bit like an observation deck, lined with windows that look out on the property in Marion, Indiana. With five bedrooms, four bathrooms and kitchen that houses a large stove, there's plenty of room for a group of up to eight people to spend a weekend enjoying the architecture.

Palmer House in Ann Arbor, MI

Known for its impactful triangular geometry (there are very few 90-degree angles in this house) and intricate brickwork, this Wright-designed residence is located on a two-acre property in Ann Arbor, Michigan. The three-bedroom home is filled with custom furniture, including hexagonal beds that fit perfectly into their surroundings. Renting the Palmer House also gives you access to an adjacent teahouse (designed by Wright protégé John H. Howe), which includes a small kitchen and bathroom.

American System-Built Home in Milwaukee, WI

Designed during the early stages of his career, Wright's American System Built-Homes were meant to be affordable-yet-stylish residences that could be built anywhere. This restored, three-bedroom home is one of six built to test the concept in Milwaukee now known as the Burnham Block. While not as grandiose as other Wright homes, there's an understated charm to this two-story pad, which features Prairie School touches like leaded glass windows and multiple fireplaces.
