Three years ago, Michelle Zauner—the musician best known for her indie solo project Japanese Breakfast—published a viral essay in the New Yorker called "Crying in H Mart," a meditation on Korean-American identity and the loss of her mother. That essay has since blossomed into an eponymous memoir, delving into the singer's childhood, grief and her ongoing reconciliation with the many facets of her biracial identity. She'll discuss the memoir with New Yorker staff writer Jia Tolentino in this livestreamed Chicago Humanities Festival event, which can be viewed for free with pre-registration.
