What to write about

Please find guidelines below. We want to know your feedback on all of the places and things to do in your city!

Remember to say whether you liked it, and why
Although it may sound obvious, we want to know what you thought about your experience in your review. If Time Out has reviewed the venue, there’s no obligation to agree with our critic, but if you do disagree, please let us know why (preferably without getting personal!).

Pick out some details to back up your opinions
Was your steak too well done? Did the bartender make an exceptional cocktail? Was the venue overcrowded? These are the things that will help others make an informed decision when thinking of visiting the venue.

Don’t go on a rampage
Negative or neutral comments are just as welcome as positive ones, but an expletive-ridden tirade won’t lend you the air of someone whose opinion is worth listening to. If you've got beef with the manager of your local bar because they wouldn’t let you hold an impromptu karaoke night on a Tuesday, send them an email directly and deal with the problem head on.

Keep it short—but not too short
We’re not asking you to rewrite War and Peace, but your review should be a bit more elaborate than “This place is great!” Aim for 50-100 words, but maybe stop writing when smoke starts coming out of your keyboard.

Add a picture to your posts
Attaching an image to your write-up may mean it takes a little longer to appear (in the interest of maintaining a genital-free website, we moderate all images) but in addition to your written review, it’ll make it that much more visually appealing for those heeding your advice.

Write about YOUR city
It’s not just restaurants, bars and nightclubs that you’ll find on Time Out. You can write reviews of a great movie or Broadway show, or the latest museum gallery you’ve been to. Don't forget about shops, parks, and other things to do around town too. If it’s on the site, you can write a review about it—and if it’s not, you can visit the Time Out Get Listed page to submit a listing.
