Baboon companion
Call me a nerd, but I love scouring art-museum gift shops for finely rendered reproductions of works in the collection—mostly a thing of the past. So I was pleasantly surprised to find this Picasso Sculpture ($180), a flawless reproduction (complete with simulated oxidation) of Picasso’s Maquette for Richard J. Daley Center Monument. The original maquette is in the Art Institute of Chicago’s collection, and the famous, full-sized Daley Plaza sculpture is the heart of the city—even if we can’t tell whether that heart belongs to an aardvark, baboon or woman. Available at the Museum Shop of the Art Institute of Chicago, 111 S Michigan Ave (888-301-9612, artinstituteshop.org).
Great minds
Befuddle your Southern relatives who can’t figure out why the heck there’s a large stain on this T-shirt, doggone it. That’s the beauty of Campfire Goods’ Greatness Tee ($24). It’s like a secret handshake: If you know it (and we don’t have to explain it to you), you’re automatically great. Available at Renegade Handmade, 1924 W Division St (773-227-2707, renegadehandmade.com).
Flag down
Rubbing Chicago all over your naked body never felt so good. The Chicago Flag Soap Bar ($12) smells like mint plants and lemongrass—quite unlike our exhaust fume–filled town—and it’s vegan to boot. Ethically Engineered made the soap by hand in, you guessed it, Chicago. Available at Renegade Handmade.
