While the inaugural Chicago River Swim won’t be taking place in the river this year, it will bring together 500 participants for a one- or two-mile swim in Lake Michigan. The event will begin at the Chicago Riverwalk, where swimmers will be transported to Ohio Street Beach via boat. Organizers hope to host the city’s first open water swim in the Chicago River in nearly a century next year. Chicago River Swim raises funds for ALS research and local youth learn-to-swim programs.
