The latest canceled events and closures in Chicago

Chicago, your safety means the world to us. That’s why, in addition to changing our logo and shifting our mission, we’re temporarily closing Time Out Market Chicago. The market will remain closed for as long as required. Our staff and our guests are just too important for us not to be cautious. We’ll be closing after dinner service on Sunday, March 15, and we’ll be sure to let you know as soon as we’re back up and running again.

On Sunday, March 15, Governor J.B. Pritzker ordered all restaurants and bars throughout Illinois to close to dine-in customers. The current Illinois "stay-at-home" order (which runs through May 30) allows restaurants to continue offering drive-through service, curbside pickup and delivery. We've gathered a list of our favorite Chicago delivery options.

Due to Governor Pritzker's "stay-at-home" order, all local music venues have been forced to close their doors. Almost all concerts and events in the coming months have either been canceled or postponed. If you're unsure about the status of a concert you have tickets to, please check the venue's website or call ahead.

Various Broadway in Chicago shows have been postponed or canceled entirely:

–My Fair Lady at the Cadillac Palace Theatre is rescheduled to May 12–23, 2021
–What The Constitution Means To Me at Broadway Playhouse is canceled
–Once Upon A One More Time at James M. Nederlander Theatre is canceled
–The Office! A Musical Parody at Broadway Playhouse is rescheduled to February 9–21, 2021
–The Simon & Garfunkel Story at CIBC Theatre is rescheduled to December 1–6, 2020

Originally scheduled for May 15–22, Illinois Craft Beer Week has been postponed indefinitely. The annual celebration of local brewers typically kicks off with the Beer Under Glass festival at Garfield Park Conservatory and continues with tastings, tap takeovers and other events at bars and breweries.

Originally scheduled for May 21–23, the Chicago House Music Festival & Conference has been canceled, along with all May and June DCASE programming. The 2020 edition of the event would have included a headlining set from DJ and producer Steve “Silk” Hurley and a ceremony honoring The Chosen Few DJs.

Originally scheduled for May 24, this year's Fifth Third Bike the Drive has been canceled by organizers the Active Trasportation Alliance. Participants can request a refund or donate the cost their registration to the organization to fund next year's ride.

Originally scheduled for May 26–30, the Chicago Gospel Music Festival has been canceled, along with all May and June DCASE programming. The 2020 edition of the festival was set to feature a headlining set from Grammy-winning gospel artist (and Kayne West collaborator) Kirk Franklin.

Originally scheduled for May 28–31, Lincoln Square's Maifest has been canceled by the event's organizers, according to its official website. The annual street festival is like a spring version of Oktoberfest, complete with steins of beer, pretzels and costumed dancers.

Originally scheduled for May 29–31, the Do Division Street Festival has been canceled by the West Town Chamber of Commerce. The event will be replaced with "virtual and digital programming."

Scheduled to take place monthly from June through September, the ACTIVATE series of pop-up celebrations in the Loop has been canceled by the Chicago Loop Alliance. This would have been the series's seventh year, bringing together artists, musicians and other local creatives in unexpected locations throughout downtown Chicago.

Originally scheduled for June 5–7, the Chicago Blues Festival has been canceled, along with all May and June DCASE programming. The 2020 celebration of 12-bar melodies was set to feature headlining sets from blues singer Shemekia Copeland, southern-soul-turned-disco-diva Candi Staton and Memphis guitarist Eric Gales.

Originally scheduled to take place from June 10–August 15, all Grant Park Music Festival events in Millennium Park and across the city have been canceled by the Grant Park Orchestra and Chorus. The 2020 lineup of concerts was set to feature the world premiere of composer Billy Childs’ Violin Concerto No. 2.

Originally scheduled for June 12–14, the annual Andersonville Midsommarfest has been postponed to August 21–21 by the Andersonville Chamber of Commerce.

With concerts originally scheduled between June 12–September 16, the entire Ravinia Festival has been canceled, including performances by Sheryl Crow, John Forgerty, King Crimson, Diana Ross and Tony Bennett. Ticketholders can receive refunds or vouchers for future performances, or they can convert those funds into tax-deductible donations.

Originally scheduled for June 13, the 2020 edition of the World Naked Bike Ride has been postponed until further notice. The annual clothing-optional cyclist gathering hopes to reschedule for later this summer if conditions improve.

Originally scheduled for June 19–21, the annula Taste of Randolph street festival has been canceled by the West Loop Community Organization.

Originally scheduled for June 20 and 21, the Chicago Pride Fest has been postponed until Labor Day weekend (September 5 and 6) by organizers the Northalsted Business Alliance. Traditionally taking place the weekend before the Chicago Pride Parade, the two-day event brings live music, drag performances and local vendors to the streets of Boystown.

Originally scheduled for June 26–28, the Logan Square Arts Festival has been canceled by organizers I AM Logan Square. The annual event traditionally takes place at the foot of the Centennial Monument, gathering local artists, restaurants and musicians during a three-day street festival.

Originally scheduled for June 28, the Chicago Pride Parade has been postponed, with organizers hoping to host the event later in the summer or early fall. Attracting more than one million people to the streets of the city's North Side, the annual event is one of the largest LGBTQ+ celebrations in the nation.

Originally scheduled for July 4, this year's edition of the Chosen Few Picnic & Festival has been canceled by the event's organizers. The annual event (which began as a small family picnic) was set to celebrate its 30th anniversary this summer, featuring sets from house music legends the Chosen Few DJs.

Originally schedled for July 10–12, the Square Roots Festival in Lincoln Square has been postponed to August 28–30 by the Lincoln Square Ravenswood Chamber Of Commerce and the Old Town School of Folk Music. The annual street festival brings together national folk and rock musicians with local performers and vendors.

Originally scheduled for July 10–12, West Fest Chicago has been canceled by the West Town Chamber of Commerce, along with all of the organization's summer events and festivals.

Originally scheduled for July 18, Chalk Howard Street has been canceled by the Rogers Park Business Alliance and Howard Street Special Service Area #19. The event, which launched in 2019, features international 3D street artists and local 2D chalk artists.

Originally scheduled to take place on July 18, the 2020 edition of the Silver Room Block Party in Hyde Park has been canceled by founder and director Eric Williams.

Originall scheduled for July 31 through August 1, the Chicago Brewing District's Dancing in the Streets festival has been canceled by the West Town Chamber of Commerce.

Originally scheduled for August 21, the South Shore Summer Festival have been canceled and the festival's budget will be used to help local businesses weather extended shutdowns.

The Field Museum is closed to the public until further notice. Events and programming at the museum will be canceled or rescheduled.

The Art Institute of Chicago is closed until further notice. All museum events (tours, lectures, performances, etc.) will remain on hiatus until the museum reopens and school tours are canceled.

Adler Planetarium is closed to the public until further notice. All programming and events taking place at the Adler during its closure will be canceled or rescheduled.

The Shedd Aquarium is closed to the public until further notice, with all programming or events scheduled during that time being cancelled or postponed. Don't worry, staff will still be on hand to feed and care for all of the aquatic creatures (the penguins are having a really good time).

All of Millennium Park (including the popular Cloud Gate Plaza) will be closed to the public through May 30, in accordance with the state's "stay-at-home" order.

The entirety of Navy Pier (and all of the businesses, restaurants and attractions contained within it) are closed to the public through May 30.

The Museum of Science and Industry is closed through until further notice and all events taking place during the museum's closure have been canceled.

The Lincoln Park Zoo is closed to the public until further notice. All events and programs taking place during this time are cancelled and refunds will be issued.

The Second City has suspended all Chicago performances until further notice. Ticketholders are elligible for refunds, or can contact the box office to reschedule their tickets for a future performance. The Second City Training Center is offering online classes and workshops.

All shows and classes at the iO Theater are canceled until further notice. The theater is offering some streaming shows via its website if you're looking for a few laughs while you're staying inside.

The Music Box Theatre is temporarily closed until further notice, with all screenings canceled or postponed. Ticketholders can request a refund or exhcnage their tickets for a future screening by contacting the theatre's box office by phone (773-871-6607, ext 2). Additionally, you'll find links to several streaming movies on the Music Box website, with proceeds supporting the theater.

All performances at the Steppenwolf Theatre are canceled or suspended until further notice. Tickets can be refunded or transferred to a donation.

The Museum of Contemporary Art is closed until further notice. The "Duro Olowu: Seeing Chicago" exhibition has been extended through September and a virtual version of the exhibit can be found on the MCA's website.

All concerts, performances and events at Symphony Center through June 9 have been cancelled. Ticketholders will be able to recieve refunds, donate the cost of their ticket or apply the value to tickets for future events.

The Lyric Opera of Chicago has canceled all performances and programming through June 30, including its staging of Richard Wagner's Ring cycle, which was scheduled to begin on April 13 and continue through May 3. Ticketholders may donate all or part of their purchase to the Lyric Opera, transfer the value to credit for future performances or request a full refund.

The Goodman Theatre has suspended all performances until further notice. The suspension affects the current production of School Girls; Or, The African Mean Girls Play and the upcoming production of Molly Sweeney, which has been postponed until April 20. Ticketholders can request a credit that will apply to future Goodman Theatre performances or a tax deduction for the total value of the ticket(s). The Goodman is currently streaming its 2016 production of Roberto Bolaño’s play 2666.

The Auditorium Theatre has suspended all performances and programs at the venue until further notice. Show affected by the closure include Shin Lim, American Ballet Theatre's "Celebrating 80 Years!" program, the Varsity Vocals ICCA Great Lakes Semifinal and the Shen Yun dancers.

The Chicago Cultural Center is closed through May 30 and all programs and tours are canceled.

The Chicago History Museum is closed to the public through May 31, though the institution will maintain digital access to its collections and electronic access to its Research Center staff via e-mail.

The Museum of Broadcast Communications is closed until further notice.

The Smart Museum of Art is closed to the public through at least May 30 and all public programming taking place during that time has also been canceled.

All gardens and grounds, and all buildings, including the Visitor Center, at the Chicago Botanic Garden are closed to public through June 30.

Due to many visitors not complying with social distancing recommendations, the Morton Arboretum has closed all 1,700 of outdoor space to the public through May 31 in the interest of public health and safety.

One of the oldest African-American–focused museums in the country, which recently debuted a new virtual reality exhibition called "The March," will be closed through May 30.
