Activist Alicia Garza—who is perhaps most famous for co-creating the Black Lives Matter movement in 2013—has two decades of of experience in civil rights and community-level organizing. She details the course of that work in her debut book, The Purpose of Power, and how organizing can be used to meet the current challenge in fighting police violence against Black Americans. You can catch her in discussion about the book and its ideas in this virtual Chicago Humanities Festival talk.
