Every 26.2 mile race begins with a single step. In Grant Park, 45,000 runners laced up their shoes and queued up to enter the course and kick off the Chicago Marathon. As in years past, spectators were not allowed to enter the starting area as participants departed, so there was distinct a lack of encouraging signs at the event's outset.
