Within the genre of frozen-yogurt emporiums is the niche subsection of self-serve shops, where you pull your own fro-yo and add your own toppings (crushed candies, fresh fruit and sugar cereals). California-based Yogurtland is a behemoth in this subcategory, and though we usually like to side with the locals, the product at its new Gold Coast location tastes higher quality than the often liquidy and/or icey stuff from Chicago-based Forever Yogurt. (The topping selection is indistinguishable.) Some flavors (e.g., chocolate) have thicker, better consistencies than others (e.g., Dulce De Licious), but once you blanket the whole thing in Fruity Pebbles, who cares?
