The Original Pancake House

The subterranean outpost of this Portland, Oregon–based chain (so much for it being “original”) typically has less of a wait than its Gold Coast sibling. This is a good thing because watching people partake in that enormous apple pancake—a mountain of caramelized cinnamon apples—can be torture. It’s foolish not to at least try the perfect buttermilk pancakes when you’re here, even if you’re more in the mood for the fluffy salami scramble; luckily, almost everything comes with a short stack.
