Cake decorator, baker and special effects artist Dina Cimarusti opened this small Logan Square bakery a handful of years after winning Season 7 of SyFy’s makeup prosthetics reality TV show, Face Off, in 2014. It’s clear Cimarusti’s a talented SFX artist (just take a look at her Instagram), but we’re grateful she’s focusing on baking as of late, because Sugar Moon is whipping up what might be some of the best damn pastries we’ve had in years. A rotating menu runs the gamut from Italian beef galettes to pillowy brioche topped with seasonal fruit, plus a selection of pizza focaccia and a world-class tahini chocolate chip cookie that’s evolved into one of the bakery’s few permanent menu items—here’s hoping it stays that way for a very long time.
