Housed in what used to be a no-frills diner, this place nonetheless aspires to be more like breakfast haunts Bongo Room and Orange. To that end, there are endless options of pancakes and French toast, most of it "stuffed" with fruit and cream and jam. There are some interesting combinations (e.g., pancakes smothered in raspberry marmalade and topped with almonds), but Marmalade is most successful when it applies this formula to the savory stuff, as it does with the "Special Brunch Plate"—a thick slice of tomato-walnut bread topped with eggs and paired with a cognac-chicken sausage brushed with syrah reduction.
