No attempt has been made by the owners of this sushi restaurant to eradicate the bad juju of Fuel, the clubby bar whose short life was spent here. The bar’s sterile ambience has been left unchanged, but now, instead of mediocre bar food, there is mediocre sushi. The bulk of the menu is made up of combinations of uncrisp tempura-battered fish, avocado and mayonnaise, all of which could stand to be rolled together with slightly more care. The “spicy tuna rice crispy” was the best thing we tried, once we knocked off the mushy tuna and just ate the crisped rice. With sushi favorites Mirai and Bob San on the same strip, Makisu has bigger curses to deal with than its predecessor.
