Zebra's Gourmet Hot Dogs Empty and dirty were the first words that sprang to mind when I walked into this Bridgeport hot dog joint. The lone worker was nice enough, but she handled money and immediately proceeded to cook the food without washing her hands. The service was also painfully slow, especially considering the lack of customers. Once I got my hot dog, however, all negative thoughts were dispelled. The Denver dog, topped with sautéed mushrooms, grated Swiss cheese and chopped green onions, was juicy, plump and resembled a Polish rather than a frank. This gem of a hot dog is served on a French roll, which was soft but managed to hold in the toppings without becoming soggy. Avoid the aftertaste of deep-fried Crisco by skipping the too-dense corn fritters and sticking to the top-notch dogs.—Emily Gilmer
