Hot Dog of the Day: The Haute and the Dog

The Haute and the Dog If you can’t already tell by its name, the Haute & the Dog specializes in fancy franks. The menu at this Wicker Park spot is well-edited with gourmet hot dogs, brats, sausages and a handful of sides. When I asked what the most popular dog was on the menu there was no deliberation: the Green Chilies Mac & Cheese dog ($4.50). The beef hot dog was jumbo, perfectly juicy, and topped with a scoop of mac and cheese. A hot green chili and onion mix gave it some heat, which cut through the fat nicely. The menu describes the mac and cheese as gooey but mine was sadly room temp and therefore a little congealed. Despite that, it’s still a great option when you're in the mood for mixing it up.—Martha Williams
