Want to escape to a simpler life this weekend? Head to this 60-something-year-old hideaway. Before it was a restaurant, it was a family’s farmhouse with a porch where friends would stop in for cold beer and corned-beef sandwiches. Pan-fried burgers on house-baked black rye came along soon after (as did a full-fledged business), and are still the spot’s signature. Friday night’s lake perch fish fry is also a hit. A couple of crispy filets slathered in tartar sauce and a tall glass of weiss beer on the tree-shaded porch and we’re happy.
