Midwesterners who pine for old-fashioned salads, sandwiches and baked goods like Mom used to make will find a good selection (macaroni, pea and pearl-onion salad, anyone?) at this sunny Edgewater bakery/café. We like the more modern panini—especially the caprese with prosciutto—as well as the rotating assortment of fresh-baked breads, including multigrain and hearty deli rye. The Metropolis coffee—a special blend brewed exclusively for the bakery—may not be as retro as a packet of Ma’s Sanka, but we like it that way.
