Pupusas typically attract cult-like followings, mainly because the little griddled Latin American masa patties are cheap, delicious, filling and can be made vegetarian as easy as a grilled cheese. Still, this humble little Avondale supplier of the snack has yet to become a destination, plugging along instead with the support of locals loading up on pupusas overstuffed with beans and chicharron, tamales steamed in banana leaves, caramelized sweet plantains and charred skirt steak for a nice price. Get extra cabbage slaw for pupusas and any of the tropical drinks to wash it all down.
