Is it a bar? A breakfast place? A deli? A dinner spot? This place is supposed to be all four, but the mural of nasty, red-eyed bats seems best suited for a sinister school cafeteria. Luckily, the sandwiches and pastries justify overlooking this place’s identity crisis: The thick, crusty bread is from Evanston’s Bennison’s Bakery and sweets come from Ann Arbor, Michigan’s, Zingerman’s Bakery. From the sandwich menu, we liked the Tabu Club (chicken breast, Muenster, bacon, lettuce and rémoulade on seven-grain) and the Blue Lightning (chicken breast, hot sauce, Muenster, blue-cheese dressing and lettuce on sourdough). Stop by in the morning for free coffee—just avert your eyes from the painting of flying rodents.
