If you live in the neighborhood or are going to a show, Act One (which is located in the comedy-and-music venue Mayne Stage) is worth knowing about, and certain holdovers from the previous tenant make it a likable neighborhood tavern. There’s a great selection of draft beers (even better when they’re all $4 on Tuesdays), and the service—particularly for a neighborhood place—is excellent. Madla’s food is affordably priced, but only a few of the dishes from the menu, such as the French dip sandwich with stewed beef and the Tootsie Roll cheesecake (swirled with the candy), turn out be of value.
