After a couple of days last week when temperatures breached 60 degrees for what feels like the first time in ages and an absolutely beautiful spring-like Saturday, Chicago weather is doing what it does best: making a U-turn. According to the National Weather Service, a "wintry mix" is headed toward Chicago this afternoon, bringing sleet and wet snow to the city in the late afternoon through the early evening.
Of course, there's no need to worry about a snowstorm on the level of those that blanketed Chicago in white stuff back in January and February—keep your junk in the basement, you won't need to enact "dibs" today. The NWS isn't projecting much in the way of accumulation, but roads and bridges might get a little slick just in time for the evening commute.
There's no cause for alarm—it's still winter in Chicago until March 20. And even then, the weather in this city is not bound by seasons. It's not exactly out of the ordinary to see a snow flurry or two in April.
