If you were planning on spending the day by the beach, think again: the Park District has just announced that swimming will be prohibited across all of Chicago's beaches today—including inland Humboldt Park Beach—because of potentially deadly water conditions.

Earlier today, the National Weather Service issued a beach hazards warning in response to the predictions. The agency specifically warns against menacing currents and waves that are up to seven feet tall. Not only are Chicagoans asked to refrain from swimming, but also avoid any other sort of water-adjacent activity. Basically, it's not the day to walk on a pier or take a stroll by a dock.

City dwellers can head to the official Chicago Park District website right here to check on the current status of things but, as of now, the beach hazards statement is in effect until 3pm today.

Considering that, away from bodies of water, today's weather is looking absolutely phenomenal (it's sunny! It's warm! It's not too hot!), we suggest you indulge in some other outdoor activities across town.

Scroll through out list of best things to do in Chicago in the summer and, perhaps, consider sipping a cocktail (or three) at some of the best rooftop bars in Chicago, cool off with some ice cream, take your bike for a long ride or play a game of pickleball.

If you really had your heart set on swimming, though, you can always head to the best public swimming pools in Chicago.
