Are you a diehard fan of indie, soul, bluegrass or jam bands? Then you'll want to turn your attention to Sacred Rose, a new Chicago area music fest that's bringing three days of curated lineups focused on those genres (and headlining sets from acts like The War on Drugs and Phil Lesh & Friends) to SeekGeek Stadium in Bridgeview this August.
Inspired by "the playful hippie spirit" and the counterculture of the 1960s, Sacred Rose will take over the SeatGeek Stadium campus with more than 40 acts spanning Americana, psych-rock, indie, soul, funk, bluegrass and, of course, jam bands. Founder Michael Berg, who also co-founded Labor Day weekend mainstay North Coast Music Festival, calls Sacred Rose a "choose-your-own-musical-adventure of sorts," with three stages—The Vega, The Canopy and The Dreamfield—home to a different genre-specific lineup over the course of each day.
Additional headliners for the weekend include psychedelic rock trio Khruangbin, perennial Midwest faves Umphrey's McGee, funky soup group Black Pumas and more. Plus, catch sets from indie bands like Animal Collective and White Denim (Friday, The Vega), electro funk outfits like Cory Wong and Goose (Saturday, The Dreamfield) and bluegrass favorites like Greensky Bluegrass and Joe Russo's Almost Dead (Sunday, The Canopy). Throughout the weekend, Grammy-nominated singer-songwriter Margo Price, serving as the festival's "artist at large," will be giving impromptu performances alongside other acts.
In addition to live music over the course of the weekend, Sacred Rose will also feature "massive, large-scale interactive art installations), and seven padded astroturf fields and an air-conditioned dome for comfortable viewing.
Ready to choose your own musical adventure? Three-day general admission passes are available now for $199 (including taxes, fees and shipping), and single-day passes are on sale for $99 a day (though VIP passes are already sold out). Layaway purchase options are available. Festival-goers can also opt to donate to Backline, a nonprofit that connects music industry workers to mental health and wellness resources, when purchasing tickets.
